Deploying an Infoblox Networks Discovery Server in a Lab
If you are deploying NIOS 9.0 or higher, NIOS and Network Discovery use the same OVA. To deploy an Infoblox Discovery server in a lab, if you are deploying NIOS 8.6 or earlier, you will need a different OVA file from the one that you use to deploy the Grid Master/Grid Member VMs. This can be downloaded from the Infoblox support portal.
When you deploy the OVA file, select the appropriate model number (e.g. ND-V1405) and remember your choice.
When the VM deploys, it will have 8 CPU cores and 64 GB of RAM. For a lab (e.g. VMware Workstation on your laptop) reduce this to something sensible such as 2 CPU cores and 8 GB RAM (or even less? I got it to boot with 1 CM and 2Gb of RAM. However, I didn't 'test' it much after boot and it would have had bad perforamance).
Power on the machine.
Run set temp_licence and add a NIOS licence (option #4) and then select the appropriate model (e.g. ND-V1405).
This restarts the system.
Run set temp_licence and add a Grid licence.
Run set temp_licence and add a Discovery licence.
This may restart the system.
Run set network to set the appropriate IP.
This restart the system.
Ensure that the Grid Master has a member entry for this appliance.
On this appliance, run set membership to join it to the Grid.
This restarts the system.
Log into the Grid Master and check that the member is connected by checking Grid > Grid Manger > Members.
Set the reporting settings by going to Grid > Grid Manager > Members and then selecting the Discovery service.
